Maintenance worker injured in Libertyville house fire

A maintenance worker was injured Tuesday night after a fire broke out in the basement of a Libertyville home.

Fire officials said the homeowner called 911 around 5:15 p.m. to report the blaze in the basement of a single-family home on the 700 block of East Rockland Road.

The worker was doing maintenance on the house and was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening, fire officials said.

Firefighters extinguished the flames within about five minutes but remained on the scene for cleanup, officials said.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation, officials said, adding they do not yet have a cost estimate for the damage.

Smoke traveled to the first floor of the home, but it remains habitable.

Firefighters from departments in Mundelein and Countryside assisted at the scene.
