I enjoyed reading the interview with Tony LaRussa (Daily Herald, Sept. 28) and getting his perspective as a longtime manager. I found it especially interesting that LaRussa is also a longtime vegetarian, though it’s not surprising — a growing number of Americans in the athletics world are turning to vegetarianism as a way to better their health, protect the planet and help animals.
Arian Foster, famed running back for the Houston Texans, went vegan this year for ethical reasons, stating, “People feel so strong about meat and milk. I wish they felt this strong about peace.” Derrick Nix, center for Michigan State, said he went vegetarian to stay in shape.
Whatever your reason may be to forgo meat, or just eat less of it, it’s never been easier to eat meat-free meals in the area. There are more than 30 all-vegetarian restaurants to choose from, and we’ve got it all: American, Indian, Thai, Mexican, Ethiopian and more. Dig in!
