UT Martin beats EIU 51-37

MARTIN, Tenn. — Derek Carr threw four touchdowns and Tennessee-Martin racked up 616 yards of total offense in the Skyhawks’ 51-37 win over Eastern Illinois on Saturday.

UT Martin (4-2, 2-1 Ohio Valley Conference) struck first, returning the opening kick 93 yards for a touchdown. The Skyhawks extended their lead to 21-6 behind two touchdown passes from Carr.

Carr’s third and fourth touchdown passes both came in the third quarter and gave the Skyhawks a 44-19 lead. Carr, who is UT Martin’s all-time leading passer, connected on touchdowns of 18, 29, 8 and 43 yards, including two to Jeremy Butler.

Butler finished with six receptions for 98 yards.

Jimmy Garoppolo led Eastern Illinois (3-3, 2-1) with 428 yards on 36-of-55 passing with Erik Lora hauling in 17 of those passes.

Lora set an Eastern Illinois record with 21 catches for 269 yards during the Panthers’ Sept. 22 matchup with Murray State.
