Kane County Board Chairman Karen McConnaughay blasted county board members for bringing a budget that includes a proposed tax increase to her committee Wednesday. She said it's irresponsible to raise taxes when home values are dropping. Not only that, the county finished with a $5 million surplus last year, so there's no evidence to suggest the county needs more money. She pitched her own flat levy, no raises budget. However, county board members in favor of employee raises wouldn't go along with it. Instead, they kept the budget they created but flattened the tax levy.
