At a glance: Because of a scheduling quirk, this is the Cubs’ second trip to Phoenix this season. The Diamondbacks swept the Cubs in three, June 22-24, outscoring them 21-7. Jason Kubel led the D’backs in homers (30) and RBI (90) entering Thursday’s game at San Francisco. Aaron Hill led in batting average (.301) and hits (174). Arizona was fifth in runs scored in the NL and fourth in on-base percentage, while the Cubs were 14th in runs and 15th in OBP. The D’backs were ninth in ERA (3.96), while the Cubs were 14th (4.50).
