Palatine's Little City tapped for Hot Chocolate Walk

By Kimberly Pohl

Once again, Little City Foundation has been chosen to benefit from one of the sweetest fundraisers around.

The Palatine-based nonprofit agency, which serves people with autism and other developmental and intellectual disabilities, has teamed up with RAM Racing for the second Hot Chocolate Walk for Little City.

The event on Sunday, Nov. 4, in Chicago's Grant Park coincides with the popular Hot Chocolate 15/5k race, which last year drew thousands of participants.

The family-friendly fundraiser is still a ways off, but Little City officials are putting out the call for walkers. Last year, more than 800 families and supporters helped raised $20,000 for the organization.

Walkers will enjoy all the same benefits as runners, including a goody bag with a sweatshirt, finisher's mug and, during the post-race party, Ghirardelli chocolate fondue and hot chocolate.

Additional perks will be given to those who reach predetermined giving levels.

Other post-race activities include a large Kid Zone, magicians and face painting. Strollers are welcome and children under the age of 12 are encouraged to participate as junior walkers.

"We were delighted to learn that the Hot Chocolate Walk for Little City was going to happen again this year," Little City Executive Director Shawn Jeffers said in a statement. "It's a wonderful chance for the whole family to participate in a race together while supporting children and adults with autism and other disabilities."

The cost is $48 per walker and $20 for juniors 12 years old and younger.
