Sex offender charged with assaulting Algonquin relative
A Joliet man who was convicted of sexually assaulting a 2-year-old a decade ago now has been charged with sexually assaulting a female relative in Algonquin.
Lewis S. Jackson, a 69-year-old registered sex offender, was taken into custody Sept. 22 at his Joliet residence.
McHenry County sheriff’s deputies were called to an Algonquin residence on Sept. 22 for a report that a female victim had been sexually assaulted by a family member.
After collecting evidence and witness statements at the scene, deputies identified Jackson as the offender and learned that he fled after the assault, authorities announced Thursday.
The sheriff’s Department sent out an alert over the Illinois State Police Emergency Radio Network in an effort to locate Jackson, and Will County sheriff’s police found him at his residence during the early morning hours, police said.
Jackson was charged with criminal sexual assault and is being held on $50,000 bail.
He had previously been convicted of predatory criminal sexual assault, criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim under the age of 13 for crimes he committed against the 2-year-old, according to public records.
