84-year-old Naperville man killed in crash

An 84-year-old Naperville man died Sunday after he lost control of his car, crossed a median and struck a vehicle head-on in Michigan, authorities said Monday.

The victim, Erdman Spradlin, was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries suffered in the crash, said Sgt. Julie Flick of the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.

The crash occurred at 11:05 a.m. on Interstate 94 near Wilson Road in New Buffalo Township, just across the Indiana state line.

Spradlin was driving his Subaru Forester west when the car jumped the median and collided with a Dodge Neon traveling in the opposite direction, authorities said.

His wife, who was riding as a passenger, and the driver of the Dodge Neon, a 50-year-old woman from Ann Arbor, Mich., were transported to an area hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

Flick said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. Authorities were continuing to investigate.
