Missing Ill. woman found dead in car in Ind. creek

WILLIAMSPORT, Ind. — Western Indiana police say the husband of an Illinois woman who went missing Friday night found her dead in her overturned car in a rural creek.

The body of 50-year-old Wynnette Werkheiser of Rossville, Ill., was found Sunday in a creek in Warren County, which abuts the Indiana-Illinois state line.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office says Werkheiser’s 1996 Chrysler Concorde had left a county road for unknown reasons and landed on its top in a creek. Werkheiser’s death remains under investigation.

The Journal & Courier reports Werkheiser left her job in Lafayette, Ind., about 11 p.m. Friday but never returned home.

Werkheiser’s husband began looking for her Saturday morning. He called 911 when he found her dead in her car the following day in the creek.
