Courtroom cameras approved for DuPage

The Illinois Supreme Court has approved cameras and other recording devices in DuPage County as well as nine counties in southern Illinois.

The court entered orders Monday allowing cameras in the 1st Judicial Circuit and the 18th Judicial Circuit. The DuPage County court system will be the first in the Chicago area to allow cameras and other recording devices in its trial courts. Illinois Supreme Court Chief Justice Thomas Kilbride announced the pilot program in April. He told WDCB Radio it is running smoothly.

The 1st Judicial Circuit includes Alexander, Jackson, Johnson, Massac, Pope, Pulaski, Saline, Union and Williamson counties in southern Illinois. The 18th Judicial Circuit includes DuPage County.

Monday’s orders bring the total to 23 Illinois counties that can allow recording devices in court.
