Money to promote women's safety on 2 Ill. campuses
WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Justice has given more than $500,000 to a pair of Illinois colleges to help them improve the safety of women on campus.
A news release from the office of U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin says the department's Office of Violence Against Women gave $270,000 to Loyola University in Chicago and $297,000 to Joliet Junior College.
The money is intended to help the schools reduce date rape and other forms of sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking. The schools are supposed to use the money for campus-police training, education programs and other efforts.
