Monarch Landing to host candidates forum Sept. 21 for DuPage Co. board

On Friday, Sept. 21, Monarch Landing of Naperville will host a candidates forum for four individuals vying for positions on the DuPage County Board.

Appearing at the event will be Jim Healy, John Zediker, Tony Michelassi and Tonia Khouri who are running for three seats on the DuPage County Board within Monarch Landing's district.

With a population of residents who are very interested in politics and current events, Monarch Landing has an dynamic political action committee which is coordinating the event. They recruited resident Bob Schroeder, a retired DuPage County Board member to moderate the forum.

“Monarch Landing has more than 400 residents so politicians like coming here. There's usually a good turnout,” he said. Schroeder served on the Board from 1988-2008.

Schroeder took an early retirement from having taught government and geography for 30 years, in order to take on his DuPage County Board role.

“I've always been involved in politics. I've always been very interested,” he said. “I ran for office because I believe in public servant hood.” Schroeder said that he focused his 20 years on the board in areas relating to human services.

Schroeder said that traditionally, voters don't pay much attention to DuPage County Board elections.

“It's usually reserved for page 17 of the newspapers. To be a good voter takes hard work. Not many people get to page 17 and very few know much about the County Board,” he said. He believes that this is a mistake. The DuPage County Board, he reported has a $450 million budget, and a hand in managing important human service, judicial and criminal justice programs.

Monarch Landing's Candidate Forum will be held at 2:30 p.m. in Monarch Landing's Millstone Lounge. For additional information regarding the Candidates Forum please call Sherry at (630) 300-1033
