Wiconsin council rejects rezoning for Hudson dog track
HUDSON, Wis. — The Hudson City Council has rejected a request to rezone the former St. Croix (kroy) Meadows dog racing track.
The Hudson School District wanted the property rezoned from commercial to public use so it could buy the property and build a new school. Voters approved the $8 million purchase in April.
Opponents of the rezoning cited the loss of tax revenue and available commercial property in rejecting the request. Community development director Dennis Darnold estimates taxes on the 130 acres could generate up to $1.2 million if it were developed for commercial or industrial use.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press says the council voted 5-1 against rezoning Monday. The greyhound track closed in 2001.
