Distinguished ECC alum returns with one-person show

Photographer, filmmaker, and Elgin Community College alumnus Sandro Miller will showcase his work this fall at the college's Spartan Drive Campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

His one-person show will be held Tuesday, Oct. 2, through Saturday, Nov. 3, in Safety-Kleen Gallery One located in Building H, the ECC Arts Center. An opening reception will take place 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, in the gallery.

Miller also will give a lecture and presentation about his work from 1 to 1:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 2, in the Spartan Auditorium located in Building G, Room G100. Both events are free and open to the public.

Miller is one of the world's leading photographers with numerous award-winning campaigns to his credit. He has photographed many national advertising campaigns for a long list of clients. Archive Magazine named him one of the 200 best advertising photographers for four consecutive years, and he's been included in the Graphis: Best 100 in Photography in 2010 and 2011.

His photographs have been included in over eight published books. Miller's ingenious exploration of the human body creates ephemeral poetic moments. Other works include poses which defy gravity, as their configurations stretch the limits of human anatomy. While Miller addresses the depths of individuality, he also identifies those traits shared by all cultures.

During a July 2011 awards ceremony in Cannes, France, Miller was selected to be included in the Saatchi and Saatchi Best New Directors Showcase for his short film "Butterflies" featuring actor John Malkovich. He also was named a 2012 Distinguished ECC Alumnus last January.

Miller's lecture and presentation are sponsored by the Humanities Center Speaker Series; the Gallery Program; the Liberal, Visual, and Performing Arts division; and the ECC Co-Curricular Fund.
