SPRINGFIELD — Republican leaders accuse the Quinn administration of dragging its feet on a new effort to make sure Medicaid goes only to people who qualify. But they also acknowledge the governor has hit a key target date.

Illinois wants to keep a closer eye on Medicaid to ensure the health care program is only used by people who meet eligibility requirements. Gov. Pat Quinn was given 90 days to hire a company to conduct the reviews.

Quinn met that deadline but says the company needs three months of preparation before it starts.

Republican legislative leaders Christine Radogno and Tom Cross said Monday that Quinn is taking too long. They want eligibility reviews to start in two weeks so Illinois can save as much money as possible.
