Authorities seize guns in SW Michigan traffic stop
ANTWERP TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Authorities in southwestern Michigan say they seized an arsenal of semiautomatic handguns, shotguns and rifles during a traffic stop on Interstate 94.
The Van Buren County sheriff’s department said in a statement that a 37-year-old man from the Detroit area was arrested following Thursday’s stop in Antwerp Township. He told authorities that the guns belonged to him, and he was taking them from the Chicago area to the Detroit area.
Ammunition also was seized. The man was held on traffic warrants out of Grand Rapids pending a review from prosecutors of possible weapons charges.
MLive.com reports an illegal silencer was found with one of the guns and some of the weapons weren’t properly registered. Authorities say the guns didn’t appear to be stolen.
