Video of search of defendant’s home shown to jury

Defense attorneys for an Oswego man accused of killing his family presented a videotape of investigators searching his home after the slayings.

The video documents Illinois State Police searching defendant Christopher Vaughn’s home for camping equipment prosecutors say Vaughn was to use in his escape to the Canadian wilderness. The video shows his daughters’ bedrooms, as well as Vaughn and his wife’s bedroom.

Court records show a search of a public storage unit registered to Vaughn turned up tents, a sleeping bag, pots, pans and other camping essentials, but little was found in his home.

Vaughn claims his wife, Kimberly, is to blame for the 2007 shootings that occurred as the family traveled to a water park. He says she killed 12-year-old Abigayle, 11-year-old Cassandra and 8-year-old Blake, and then herself.
