Baker communications problem

A communication error between Daniel Baker and his attorney Ed Gensen threatens to delay the scheduled Oct. 6 murder trial. Baker, 24, of Deerfield, turned away an examination from a state-appointed psychiatrist on Sept. 8 at Lake County jail. Defense attorney Ed Gensen told Lake County Associate Judge Daniel Shanes there was an error in communication and Baker thought Gensen wanted the examination turned down. Baker told Shanes he is “looking forward” to the examination and will not turn away the psychiatrist again. The communication error threatens to throw off the tight schedule for the Oct. 9 trial. Baker is accused of killing 50-year-old Marina Aksman in her Vernon Hills home in April 2010 because she was trying to break off Baker’s relationship with her daughter. Gensen and prosecutors are expected to meet in court Friday to determine if the trial needs to be pushed back.
