Boy, 6, killed in McHenry County hit-and-run

Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a driver who struck and killed a 6-year-old boy in rural McHenry County near Woodstock Saturday night.

Bryan Silva, of Leland, Ill., was struck just after 9 p.m. Saturday on the 4600 block of Franklinville Road, according to police. Paramedics took Silva to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the driver fled the scene of the crash northbound on Franklin Road.

The boy was crossing the street to get to his father who was on the other side of Franklin Road when he was struck by a passing vehicle, said McHenry County Undersheriff Andrew Zinke.

As of late Sunday afternoon, neither the driver nor the vehicle had been located.

The vehicle was described as a white possibly small SUV or passenger car, according to police. The vehicle has damage to one of its headlights, police said.

“We have canvassed the area and done a grid search in the area looking for a possible vehicle,” Zinke said.

The McHenry County sheriff’s office is investigating the crash.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (815) 338-2144 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at (800) 762-7867.
