Teen driver charged in death of 5-year-old
A Highland Park teenager has been charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence of an intoxicating compound in the death of a 5-year-old girl who was struck by a car.
Carly A. Rousso of Highland Park was charged Wednesday in the death of Jaclyn Santos-Sacramento. The girl, her mother and brothers, ages 4 and 2, were struck Monday as they walked along a Highland Park street.
Highland Park Deputy Police Chief David Schwarz said Wednesday additional charges are pending against the 18-year-old Rousso. City Manager David Knapp says blood and urine samples were obtained from Rousso, and have been sent to the Illinois State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
Officials say police at the scene of the crash “made observations of the driver consistent with possible impairment.”
