Ÿ Jeremy D. Kolenda, 34, of the 600 block of Reed Street in Beecher, Ill., appeared in bond court Thursday on a felony theft charge, according to court documents. Kolenda is charged with taking an $8,000 wedding ring and a $500 pair of earrings Aug. 20 from an Elgin home while installing hardwood floors. Gold Rush Pawn Shop in Chicago Heights has video footage of Kolenda selling the stolen jewelry, police said. Bail was set at $5,000, of which Kolenda must pay 10 percent to be released before his next court date, scheduled for Sept. 13 in St. Charles.
Ÿ Two cellphones, a Play Station 3, its controller and video games, two laptops, a digital camera, a camcorder and a shoulder bag were stolen sometime between 6:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday from a home on the 300 block of Sexauer Avenue, according to police reports. The owner of the items suspects friends he recently had a falling out with.
Ÿ Aaron Peña, 22, of Elgin, was charged with possession of marijuana after being arrested just before midnight Monday in Wing Park, 1010 Wing St., according to police reports. Officers said they stopped Peña for being in the park after dark and found him with a small amount of marijuana. He is due in court Sept. 28 in Elgin.
Ÿ A refrigerator, stove, microwave and two routers were stolen sometime between Saturday and Tuesday from a home on the 900 block of Hill Avenue, police said. The owner of the house suspects a woman he had been renting to, but no charges were filed at the time of the report.
