Scam targets Illinois businesses

State officials are warning Illinois businesses of a scam that attempts to collect a bogus fee.

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White says a firm called Corporate Records Services is contacting businesses around the state. It asks businesses to collect $125 and fill out the corporation's “annual minutes records form.”

However, Illinois law doesn't require such a form or paying that fee.

White says the scam documents look similar to forms from the Secretary of State's office. He says that Illinois businesses should be on alert.

White's office and the Illinois Attorney General's office are investigating.
