Metropolis in running for Chase grant; voting opens Thursday

Metropolis Performing Arts Centre has been nominated to participate in the 2012 Chase Community Giving Program, beginning Sept. 6.

Of the nominated charities, 196 local nonprofits will have the opportunity to share in $5 million in grants.

The grant award amount will be determined by the number of votes that the eligible charities receive during the two-week voting period, Sept. 6-19. Now, Metropolis just needs votes.

Vote for Metropolis on Facebook by visiting Chase’s Community Giving page or by going to Chase.com.

Metropolis Executive Director Charlie Beck has vowed to shave his head if Metropolis wins the grand prize of a $250,000 grant. If Metropolis becomes one of the next top 10 vote-getters and wins $100,000, Charlie will transform himself into a Wonderette in one of Metropolis’ upcoming performances of “The Marvelous Wonderettes.”

If Metropolis finishes in one of the final three groups, the theater will raffle off a walk-on role in their production of “A Christmas Carol” to someone who voted.

Metropolis is at 111 W. Campbell St., at Vail Avenue. Street parking is available; free parking is in the public garage behind the theater.
