Six DUI arrests in Wheeling over Labor Day weekend
Wheeling police made six DUI arrests and seven other significant arrests during the recent Labor Day holiday enforcement campaign, police announced. In addition, 56 safety belt citations were written.
The department joined forces with other state and local law enforcement and highway safety partners in the crackdown campaign, featuring high-visibility enforcement combined with a variety of outreach activities including a media campaign. Extra emphasis was given to late-night hours, as statistics show the highest number of motorists drink and drive and the fewest motorists buckle up during this time of day.
This law enforcement crackdown was funded by federal traffic safety grants through the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Division of Traffic Safety and is part of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns.
