Bible doesn’t support taxes to help poor

BRegarding Ms. Cathy O’Brien’s letter posted Aug 26, nowhere in the Bible does it suggest that helping the poor is done through taxes. In fact, it’s quite the opposite; in all examples of giving and supporting the poor from both the Old and New Testaments, the government is never involved. Ms. O’Brien displays typical Liberal thinking when she equates paying taxes and supporting an inept, wasteful, corrupt government with giving to the poor.

May I suggest that Ms. O’Brien sell all her worldly goods and give the proceeds to the Federal Government so she can demonstrate her “way to Heaven”? For this follower of Jesus, I support private institutions that do 10 times as much good versus our secular, godless government, and I think the “guilt trip” that liberals use for our government to confiscate private property through ever-higher taxes to “redistribute” as our government leaders see fit is laughable for all thinking persons.
