Oswego Paralympian adds another medal

Cyclist Joe Berenyi of Oswego won a second medal Sunday during the cycling competition at the Paralympic Games in London.

After winning a gold medal Friday in the 3-kilometer individual pursuit, Berenyi captured a bronze medal Sunday in the Mixed C1-C5 Cycling Team Sprint, said his wife, Jill Berenyi.

Joe was part of the three-member U.S. team, and had hoped for bronze in this event, his wife said.

"There was stiff competition," she said. "He is ecstatic with two medals!"

The 43-year-old Aurora native and father of three lost his right arm and left kneecap in a construction accident 18 years ago, and was told he would have trouble walking again.

Berenyi will compete in two more events in the Paralympic Games.
