Two pedestrians struck by car

By

Two pedestrians were struck by a car while walking across O’Plaine Road near Gurnee village hall, police said. Authorities said Gurnee police and fire units responded at 8:37 p.m. Thursday to a serious injury collision on O’Plaine at Hayner Avenue. Two women, ages 43 and 46, both from Gurnee, were struck by a northbound 2002 Pontiac Grand Am as they walked east across O’Plaine. Paramedics brought the women to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Police said car was driven by Ana L. Vaca-Alvarez, 24, of Waukegan, who was uninjured. She was issued citations for driving with a suspended driver’s license, failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, and driving too fast for conditions. Police said the crash is under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Gurnee Police Department at (847) 599-7000.
