SIU student hospitalized after 4th-floor fall

CARBONDALE, Ill. — A student at Southern Illinois University’s campus in Carbondale is in the hospital after he fell from a fourth-floor residence hall window.

In a message Friday morning, Chancellor Rita Cheng identified the student as freshman Tyler Gravitt of South suburban Matteson.

WSIU Radio reported that campus police responded to University Hall shortly after 2 a.m. Friday. Police say Gravitt was taken to a local hospital, but the chancellor’s office says he later was transported to a St. Louis hospital, where he’s in intensive care.

Authorities say Gravitt’s fall appears accidental, but SIU police are still investigating.
