National slow pitch tournament in Elgin this weekend

The Slow-Pitch Softball Association will holds its 2012 Men’s 16-inch Major Nationals this weekend at the Elgin Sports Complex.

The tournament will consist of 27 of the best men’s slow pitch teams in the country, including six teams from Iowa and one from California. The weekend’s festivities will include a skills competition, a home run derby and an Illinois vs. USA All-Star game.

The action begins today at 7 p.m. with a skills competiton and home run derby. The all-star game is at 8:45 p.m.

Tournament play begins at 6:45 p.m. Friday, with the championship scheduled for Sunday evening. Monday will be used as a rain date.
