Construction will begin Thursday in St. Charles on a temporary public parking lot on the east side of First Street between Illinois and Main streets. The project will create an additional 50 parking spaces.
An asphalt walkway also will be installed along the east side of First Street to provide access from Main Street to the parking lot. The owners of the property at the southeast corner of Main and First streets will be removing the chain-link construction fence and installing a new decorative fence.
The project, being completed by Martam Construction, Inc., should take about three weeks. There might be temporary lane closures during the day as well as construction traffic on First Street. The parking space designated for disabled drivers on the east side of First Street will not be available during construction. This space will be removed and relocated to the new parking lot upon completion.
Motorists and pedestrians are asked to pay special attention to roadway conditions, equipment and workers when driving on First Street, drive slowly and heed directions from the construction crews.
