Pitching matchups: The Cubs’ Jeff Samardzija (8-11) vs. Drew Pomeranz (1-7) Friday at 1:20 p.m.; Brooks Raley (1-2) vs. Alex White (2-6) Saturday at 12:05 p.m.; Chris Volstad (0-9) vs. Jhoulys Chacin (1-3) Sunday at 1:20 p.m.

At a glance: This is the first meeting between the clubs this year. The Rockies entered Thursday’s game at New York last in the NL West. Carlos Gonzalez led the team in most offensive categories. He had a line of .317/.386/.537 with 20 homers and 79 RBI. Former Cub Tyler Colvin took a five-game hitting streak into Thursday. His line was .295/.334/.548 with 14 homers and 52 RBI. DJ LeMahieu, traded with Colvin for injured third baseman Ian Stewart, was at .279/.304/.378. Colorado was second in runs scored but last in ERA (5.31). The Cubs ranked last in hits, runs, walks and OBP. Even with their recent spate of strikeouts, the Cubs ranked only 10th in that category. The Cubs will face a lefty Friday for the first time after going 14 straight games against right-handed starters.
