Clerk injured during Aurora armed robbery

Police are looking for a man who stabbed a 19-year-old convenience store clerk in the hand during an armed robbery of the store Tuesday.

Police said a 6-foot-tall, 250-pound black man walked around the counter of Fiesta Food Mart, 220 Jackson St., Tuesday afternoon while displaying a knife and demanded money from the register.

The clerk then opened the register and the robbery grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash, according to police.

Once the man had the money, he charged at the clerk, causing him to fall, and swung the knife at him several times, police said. The thief then fled the store and drove away in a red sedan, possibly a Dodge Neon, which he had backed into a parking space on the south side of the store.

Police responded to the robbery at 2:15 p.m. and found the injured clerk.

The clerk suffered a stab wound to his hand and cuts around one eye and an elbow, police said. The injuries were not life-threatening.

The robber was described as clean-shaven and was wearing a black baseball cap, a black short-sleeved T-shirt and black cargo shorts, according to police.
