The Justice Department has announced a settlement with a Niles company resolving a discrimination claim.
The agreement with MicroLink Devices settles allegations that the company violated the anti-discrimination provision of the Immigration and Nationality Act by posting online job notices with citizenship requirements.
The Justice Department says employers generally cannot discriminate on the basis of citizenship status. Such discrimination could illegally exclude lawful permanent residents, refugees or individuals given asylum in the United States.
MicroLink Devices agreed to pay $12,000 in civil penalties and to revise its hiring and recruiting procedures.
MicroLink Devices makes wireless communication materials and advanced solar cells. The company did not immediately respond to a phone call and email seeking comment on the agreement.
