Slipknot drummer, Chicago-based singer to make anti-bullying video in Geneva

Slipknot drummer Shawn Crahan and two members of Sister Soleil, along with Geneva teenagers, are making a music video to send the message that bullying others isn’t cool.

The video will be filmed at noon Saturday at Geneva High School, 416 McKinley Ave. It will feature the song, “Stand for the Silent,” written by Crahan and Sister Soleil, and hopes to support Stand for the Silent, an anti-bullying group. A Phoenix studio owner has also released a song by the same name, to benefit the same organization.

Stand for the Silent was founded by Oklahoma State University students in 2010 after they heard about Tyler Smalley, an 11-year-old boy who killed himself. Tyler did so after being suspended from school for retaliating against people who bullied him. His parents are involved with the organization, speaking about bullying and its effects.

Crahan — known as “Clown” in the metal band, which wears masks while performing — and Sister Soleil have been working with former Geneva High student Shea Villwock, of Glasswall Productions. Villwock is the one who arranged to use Geneva High School.

“Absolutely. We’d be happy to help you,” Principal Tom Rogers told Villwock, because of his being an alumni and because of the anti-bullying message. “We did not hesitate to support this message.”

Teens are asked to bring anti-bullying signs.

Sister Soleil features Stella Katsoudas of Chicago. Katsoudas has also performed as Stella Soleil, and had a single, “Kiss Kiss,” that placed at No. 27 on a Billboard U.S. pop music chart in 2001. She and Crahan have worked together in the band Dirty Little Rabbits, with Katsoudas as lead vocalist.

Katsoudas has been recording new material at a studio in Geneva. Crahan, meanwhile, has wrapped up the inaugural Knotfest musical festival, organized by Slipknot.

Katsoudas is looking for sponsors to help pay for the video production. If interested, visit her Facebook page, facebook.com/stella.katsoudas? ref=ts.

The video will be shown on the Internet.
