Learn about the history of the Ryder Cup premier international golf competition in a lecture by golf professional, historian and speaker Peter Longo at the Mayslake Peabody Estate, 1717 W. 31st St., Oak Brook. Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College® has announced open auditions from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, at The Joffrey Ballet dance studios, 10 E. Randolph St., Chicago. Those auditioning will be asked to show improvisational ability, a sense of timing and a sincere desire to be a clown. Those who attend the auditions will also take part in a Ringling Bros. Clown College workshop on improvisation and physical comedy. Previous clowning experience is not required, nor are costumes and props. However, those wishing to spotlight specialty skills such as juggling, unicycle riding, or playing the ukulele with a spoon, should come prepared with their own tools. Any individual contracted to perform with one of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey's nationally touring productions must be 18 years of age or older, but younger auditioners are welcome.
