Defense lets Cougars down

BURLINGTON, Iowa — Three errors from the Kane County Cougars' defense led to 5 unearned runs as the Burlington Bees took advantage for a 6-3 victory on Tuesday night at Community Field.

Burlington grabbed the lead with 4 runs in the third against Kyle Zimmer (2-3). Michael Fabiaschi reached to start the inning on a throwing error by Jack Lopez.

After Aaron Shipman singled, Michael Antonio threw high to first on a grounder, loading the bases. Burlington cashed in as Max Muncy's sac fly drew home Fabiaschi to tie the game at 1-1.

Wade Kirkland singled to center, giving the Bees a 2-1 lead. Rashun Dixon padded the cushion by getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Kane County (63-64, 29-28) tried to mount a comeback in the sixth as they chased starter Chris Lamb (3-2) from the game. Julio Aparicio singled to start the frame while Michael Antonio reached on an error before Tim Ferguson's double allowed Aparicio to score.

Chris Elder grounded out to second, bringing Antonio in, but the Cougars didn't have another man reach base as Logan Chitwood and David Macias (save) shut the door the rest of the way.
