Man shot by South Bend police charged with murder

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — A man wounded by South Bend police officers has been charged with killing one man inside a house and another man who was walking a dog.

St. Joseph County prosecutors filed two counts of murder and six counts of attempted murder against 29-year-old Brandon Biffle on Wednesday for Sunday’s shootings.

The South Bend Tribune reports that Biffle remains hospitalized for his wounds.

Court documents say 53-year-old Johnnie Avance might have been asleep on a couch when he was shot. A witness told investigators he heard shots then saw Biffle leave the house and shoot 55-year-old Donald Paris.

Authorities say Biffle also fired shots at two other people and four police officers who returned fire.

Prosecutors haven’t release a possible motive in the shootings.
