Cops: Drunken driver struck two vehicles, fled in Libertyville

A Libertyville man is accused of crashing into two vehicles while intoxicated and later driving away during a traffic stop last week, according to police.

Police responded to an accident in the area of Garfield and Austin avenues at 3:35 p.m. Aug. 8 and learned that the driver of a vehicle that had been struck was following the hit-and-run driver.

Police then responded to a second accident at Park and Stewart avenues and stopped the offending vehicle.

Officers ordered Patrick K. Nichols, of the 200 block of West Park Avenue, to exit the vehicle, but he drove away, according to a Libertyville police report.

Nichols, 52, stopped the vehicle as he entered a parking garage at his residence with police in tow and was arrested, according to police.

He was charged with driving under the influence, aggravated DUI, aggravated fleeing and eluding, operating an uninsured vehicle, reckless driving, failure to reduce speed to avoid two accidents, leaving the scene of two accidents and resisting or obstructing a peace officer.
