Vernon Hills Stingers hold girls travel softball tryouts

All girls who will be age 18, 16, 14, 12, 10 or younger by Jan. 1, 2013, who live in the surrounding communities of Lake, McHenry, or Cook counties are invited to try out for the Vernon Hills Stingers Travel Softball Program.

Tryouts for the 10U and 12U age groups will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 11, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12.

Tryouts for the 14U, 16U and 18U age groups will be from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, and 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12.

Registration and warm-ups will begin one hour prior to tryout times. Rain dates, if required, will be Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 18 and 19, at the same times and location.

Each team will have a staff of dedicated coaches. Teams will begin training and may play in fall ball league games or tournaments in September or October 2012. Individual and small group pitching, catching, hitting, infield, outfield, base running, and speed and agility clinics will also be offered.

High school players will not be allowed to train per the Illinois High School Association bylaws from March 1, 2013, through the end of the Illinois high school season.
