Metropolis receives Target grant for outreach programs

Metropolis Performing Arts Centre has been awarded a grant from Target Corporation in support of its outreach programming in arts education.

The grant is part of Target’s ongoing efforts to build strong, safe and healthy communities across the country. These efforts include Target’s tradition of giving 5 percent of its income to communities, which today equals more than $3 million every week.

“This grant will allow Metropolis to continue its outstanding efforts in outreach programming, enabling us to bring top quality arts education to a variety of organizations and student demographics,” said Michelle Shaver Metropolis Performing Arts Education director. “We want to thank Target for its support.”

For the third consecutive year, Metropolis was awarded this grant. These funds will help Metropolis continue to provide quality co-curricular and extracurricular performing arts education experiences through in- and after-school programming throughout the community. Through its programs for special-needs students, Metropolis fosters interpersonal skills, communication, awareness of emotions and movement as well as understanding of storytelling and character building.

The community-based single-day programs cultivate arts appreciation and awareness and expose students to different cultural experiences. And those outreach programs based in schools supplement state-standard curriculum with arts-integrated instruction.

Metropolis is at 111 W. Campbell St., Arlington Heights. Street parking is available. Free parking is available in the public garage behind the theater.
