• Steeplechaser Evan Jager, Jacobs High School, had the second-fastest time (8 mins./16.61 secs.) in the qualifying rounds. Medal round is Sunday.

• Christine Loukas, Riverwoods, finishes 7th in 3-meter springboard diving prelims, easily qualifying for Saturday's semifinals.

• U.S. women's soccer (Amy LePeilbet, Crystal Lake) is 4-0 after a quarterfinal win over New Zealand, 2-0. Next up: Canada, on Monday. • U.S. women's water polo team (Melissa Seidemann, Hoffman Estates) beats China 7-6 to stay undefeated. USA plays Italy in Sunday's quarterfinals.

• The 4-0 U.S. women's basketball team beat the Czech Republic 88-61. Tamika Catchings (Stevenson) had 10 points; Candace Parker (Naperville Central) had 7. Chicago Sky player Swin Cash had no points but 9 assists; Sky player Sylvia Fowles was still out with a sore foot.
