Zion man charged with delivery of cocaine
Kevin D. Howell, 43, of Zion, was arrested at 5:30 p.m. Thursday and charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and two counts of delivery of a controlled substance during a traffic stop 23rd Street and Lewis Avenue in Zion, authorities said. Howell gave officers permission to search his 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe where a large amount of crack cocaine, a loaded 9 mm handgun and heroin was discovered, according to a news release from the Lake County sheriff’s office. Officers later followed up with a search of his residence in the 2500 block of Gilead in Zion and a substantial amount of crack cocaine was located at this residence as well as an AR-15 assault rifle and numerous magazines for the weapon. In total, detectives took 776 grams of cocaine, 1 gram of heroin and two guns off the streets, authorities said. Howell was also charged with two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, and a single count of obstructing a correctional employee.
