90-year-old man Wisconsin charged in death of bicyclist

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — A 90-year-old man is facing two felony charges in the death of a bicyclist in Eau Claire (oh-KLAYR’) County.

Prosecutors say Archie Vanwormer struck Kirk Cartwright from behind on a bike path in Eau Claire June 29. The 51-year-old Eau Claire man suffered a severe head injury and died a short time later at a local hospital.

The Eau Claire Leader-Telegram reports Vanwormer’s vehicle dragged the bike about 200 feet and continued down the bike path. Vanwormer is scheduled to make an initial court appearance Thursday on homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle and hit-and-run involving death.
