A male motorist's car was attacked twice in a road rage incident, doing an estimated $1,000 damage, Arlington Heights police reported.

The victim, driving a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta, passed a van on I-90 about 1:20 p.m. July 27 Friday, then left the tollway at Arlington Heights Road and drove to the intersection of Meijer Drive and Algonquin Road, where he stopped for a red light.

The driver of the van, who had followed the victim, got out of his vehicle, walked up to the Jetta, struck a passenger's-side window with an unknown object, then returned to his van, police reports said.

The victim, fearing the offender, pulled into a restaurant lot at the stoplight and tried to exit the lot at Golf Road, but the offender blocked the exit with his van. The offender got out of the van again and kicked a driver's-side door and shattered a driver's-side window on the Jetta, reports said.

The victim turned his car around, fled the lot on the Algonquin side, and drove onto Meier Drive, while the offender drove away. He was described as in his late 40s, 6-feet-1, 215 pounds, wearing shorts and a T-shirt.
