Save-A-Pet kicks off 40th anniversary celebration

Save-A-Pet Adoption Center will officially kick off its 40th anniversary commemoration at noon Saturday, Aug. 4, with the 2012 “Celebration of Life” reunion to mark the long-standing commitment to providing no-kill rescue and adoption services in the Chicagoland area.

Individuals and families interested in adoption and supporters of no-kill rescue are invited to join Save-A-Pet alumni, current pets, volunteers, community businesses, and more at the adoption center, 31664 North Fairfield Road.

Activities include a special pet blessing, live music by Jazzman Jeff Justman, food and refreshments, an animal photo contest, games, raffles, a bake sale, and more. The event will also launch Save-A-Pet’s fall community giving campaign: “40 for 40.”

New to this year’s reunion, attendees can enjoy a unique opportunity to tour Save-A-Pet’s recreational “play yards” in the back of the adoption center property. On a daily basis, volunteers and staff utilize these play yards to exercise and socialize Save-A-Pet’s dogs.

This activity is critical for their physical and emotional health. During the tour, attendees will have the chance to view some of Save-A-Pet’s dogs currently available for adoption or fostering.

Save-A-Pet adopters are once again invited to submit pictures of their adopted pet to the annual alumni photo contest. Adopters can enter a single cat or dog picture, or a collage of up to four pictures (one entry per pet). Winners will be announced at the reunion. Contest submission forms are available at www.saveapetil.org, via email requests and at the adoption center. Photo content rules can also be viewed on Save-A-Pet’s website.

Photos submitted via email should be at least 300 dpi in resolution and should be sent to socialmedia@saveapetil.org. Photos submitted via regular mail should be sent to: Save-A-Pet Adoption Center, P.O. Box 266, Grayslake, IL 60030, Attn: “Photo Contest.”

The “Celebration of Life” Reunion is a pet-friendly event. Dogs not adopted from Save-A-Pet are welcome to attend the event as well. Save-A-Pet asks that all dogs be kept on non-retractable leashes. This event may be too hot or stressful for cats, but cat adopters are welcome to bring a picture of their favorite feline friend(s).

Save-A-Pet Adoption Center was founded in 1972 based on a no-kill mission. Forty years later, more than 40,000 animals have been successfully saved without any discrimination against age, health, breed, or temperament. Save-A-Pet is one of the largest no-kill animal rescues in all of Chicagoland, and one of the very few operating a full-time adoption center.

Save-A-Pet is also a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization, requiring more than $1.3 million per year to fund animal rescue and care expenses. All adoptions and donations are appreciated.
