Hanover Park man charged after shooting

A Hanover Park man was jailed Thursday on charges he recklessly fired a gun into the air in an area where teenagers were playing.

DuPage County Judge Elizabeth Sexton set bail at $15,000 for Sean Sweeney, 24, of the 2100 block of Wildwood Lane.

According to court records, Sweeney shot in the air shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday while in proximity to another man and a group of teenagers playing in the neighborhood.

In court, defense attorney George Kallas said Sweeney is a licensed firearm owner and lifelong Illinois resident who works in hazardous-material removal.

If convicted of reckless discharge of a firearm, Sweeney could face up to three years in prison. His next court date is Aug. 20.
