Big Ten to offer ticket reservations for conference championship game

Tickets for the 2012 Big Ten Championship Game go on sale Saturday, but fans won’t have to shell out the cash for a full-price ticket five months before the game and just hope that their team makes it.

New to this year’s game, fans will have the option to reserve a ticket for a $10 fee. If their specified team qualifies for the championship game, they can purchase the reserved ticket at full price at a later date. However, if the team does not qualify, the reservation expires and the $10 fee is forfeited.

Reservations and tickets to the 2nd annual Big Ten Championship Game will be available beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, through ticketmaster.com or by phone at 800-745-3000.

This year’s conference championship will be held on Dec. 1 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, the site of the game through 2015, between the top teams from the Legends and Leaders divisions. The winner will earn a chance to play in either the Rose Bowl or the National Championship game. Wisconsin defeated Michigan State 42-39 in the inaugural game last season.

Due to sanctions imposed by the Big Ten, Ohio State and Penn State are ineligible for this year’s championship.
