Lake County property assessment notices may arrive slightly earlier than in previous years as a change in state law provides counties the ability to publish assessments before Aug. 10 and maintain a 30-day assessment appeal period. The process is beginning earlier because of a jump in the number of property owners appealing their assessment valuations. Property owners in Fremont Township will be the first to benefit from the change and are expected to see the assessment notices this month. Everyone will still have 30 days to file an appeal but county officials say it will give them a head start to meet that demand. Property owners in Antioch, Benton, Cuba, Moraine, Shields, and Zion townships will receive their assessment notices in August.
