Husband-and-wife team charged in Chicago robbery spree
A Chicago couple is accused of going on a three-month armed robbery spree that targeted women who walked alone.
Charles Edwards on Thursday was ordered held without bond after being charged with armed and aggravated robbery. His wife, 38-year-old Karena Edwards, was ordered held in lieu of $1 million after also being charged with armed and aggravated robbery.
Chicago police say the couple drove around the city from April to mid-June, looking for women walking along. When a victim was spotted, the 40-year-old Edwards would get out the vehicle and rob her at gunpoint, taking her purses and other valuables.
Police say they were led to the couple after Karena Edwards tried to cash a check belonging to a victim.
It wasn’t immediately known if the couple has a lawyer.
