'Stooges' movie now out on DVD

“The Three Stooges”

Peter and Bobby Farrelly pay tribute to The Three Stooges with a film that offers something both for a new generation and those of us who grew up laughing at their antics. The story is divided into three episodes and starts as Larry, Curly and Moe are dropped off as babies on the steps of the Sisters of Mercy Orphanage. The nuns in charge include sister Mary-Mengele (Larry David), Mother Superior (Jane Lynch) and Sister Rosemary (Jennifer Hudson).

Years later, Moe (Chris Diamantopoulos), Larry (Glen Ellyn native Sean Hayes) and Curly (Will Sasso) have driven the nuns away and are employed as maintenance men at the orphanage. They find out that the orphanage will be closed unless they can raise $830,000 in 30 days. So the trio leaves the only home they've ever known for the big city to figure out how to raise the cash. They run into Lydia (Sofia Vergara), who offers them what they need in return for killing her husband.

It's difficult taking on an American comedy institution, but this film works.
